Setting up your site's accounts

Your HOA owns every account your site runs on. Here's how to create each one and add me, with only the access I need. Most take about five minutes.

How your site fits together Every piece is in your HOA's name. I set them up and run the technical ones.

  • Time About 5 minutes
  • Cost Free
  • Who Any board member
  1. Go to github.com and sign up with your board email.
  2. Click + → New repository. Name it after your HOA, like woodmark-hoa (lowercase, dashes, no spaces), choose Private, then click Create repository.
  3. In the new repository, open Settings → Collaborators → Add people and enter my GitHub username, cjreynoldsflatt.

Tip Use a regular account, not a GitHub "organization". It's simpler, and it keeps hosting at one $20 seat.

2

Vercel Pro

Puts your site on the web. Every site.

  • Cost $20 a month, plus about $40 once for my setup seat
  • Who The board member who holds the HOA card
  1. Go to vercel.com, click Continue with GitHub and use the GitHub account from step 1.
  2. Create a team named after your HOA, choose the Pro plan and add the HOA's card.
  3. Open Settings → Members → Invite and invite my email as a Member.

Expect a small extra charge Adding me uses a second paid seat, $20 a month, prorated. I need it only for the roughly two months of setup, then I leave the team, so plan on about $40 extra, once. If a setting needs changing later, you can add me back for a few days.
